5 FACTS / TIPS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SUNSCREEN !

Summer is around the corner. You're going to go out in the sun a lot but forget to protect yourself from the sun rays !
The main risk factor for sunburn, premature skin aging, skin damage, and skin cancer is exposure to UV light from the sun. More than 90 percent of skin cancers are caused by sun exposure. Using tanning beds and tanning lamps also increases the risk for skin damage and skin cancer.
the risk of skin damaged is  not only related do the number of sunburns the person has experienced ut also related to some physical characteristics like :
  • Freckles
  • Blue/green eyes
  •  Fair skin
  •  Blond/red hair
So here I present to you 5 things you didn't know about sunscreens :

1.There is a difference between  UVA and UVB :

Both UVA and UVB can cause tanning and burning, although UVB does so far more rapidly. UVA, however, penetrates the skin more deeply than UVB, and may be a much more important factor in photoaging, wrinkles and skin cancers.
What is less well known is that for many years, sunscreens only protected you from the potentially beneficial, vitamin D producing UVB rays, while letting through skin-damaging UVA light.
In fact, a sunscreen without adequate UVA protection can end up increasing your risks. If you think you are protected by sunscreen, you are likely to stay out in the sun longer -- and all the while, you will be soaking up the highly penetrating, wrinkle and cancer causing UVA radiation without the warning sign of a burn (remember that a UVA burn takes much longer to appear).
2. A  higher factor doesn't necessarily mean a better protection :

Theoretically, applying sunscreen with a sun protection factor, or SPF, of 100 would allow beachgoers to bare their skin 100 times longer before suffering a sunburn.ut for high-SPF sunscreens,
Theory and reality are two different things. Many studies have found that people are misled by the claims on high-SPF sunscreen bottles. They are more likely to use high-SPF products improperly and as a result may expose themselves to more harmful ultraviolet radiation than people relying on products with lower SPF values.
Sunbathers often assume that they get twice as much protection from SPF 100 sunscreen as from SPF 50. In reality, the extra protection is negligible. Properly applied SPF 50 sunscreen blocks 98 percent of UVB rays; SPF 100 blocks 99 percent. When used correctly, sunscreen with SPF values in the range of 30 to 50 will offer adequate sunburn protection, even for people most sensitive to sunburn.
3.Spray suncreens aren't the best idea :

Then, there’s the issue of potentially harmful ingredients. The Environmental Working Group recommends avoiding sunscreens that contain oxybenzone, which can behave like estrogen in the body, and retinyl palmitate, which may speed the development of skin tumors when exposed to sun.
These ingredients can be found in sprays and lotions alike, but pose a greater threat in sprays because there’s the potential to inhale these chemicals. And lastly, like anything else in an aerosol can, spray sunscreen is potentially flammable. Although problems are rare, in 2012 the FDA received five separate reports of people catching on fire after spraying sunscreen and then getting too close to an open flame, such as a campfire or barbecue grill.
4.Fake tan and SPF don't mix :

If you've ever been tempted by those miraculous-sounding products that claim to fake tan while they protect, it's all lies !
Abi Cleeve, managing director of suncare brand Ultrasun explains, "The primary ingredient in self tanning products is a chemical called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA works by creating a chemical reaction on your skin (which turns you that delightful shade of builders brew).
So what can you do in this situation ? Fake tan the night before, or a couple of days before your holiday. As long as you don't fake tan on the same day, your regular broad-spectrum sunscreen will work just fine.
5.How to not look greasy after applying sunscreen ?!

  1. wash your face in the morning  to eliminate the oils produced in your sleep .
  2. Use a cotton pad and swipe -around the areas of your face that get oily-with a mttifying toner .
  3. aplly your sunscreen .
  4. let it absorb. Then usa a blottig sheet to soak up any leftover residues .
  5. last, dust on an SPF- spiked powder which  will keep you matte for hours .
